Have you ever wanted to be part of something larger than your own  nuclear family? Living in community may not be the answer for everyone, but if you like people and are flexible enough to live in the country, and include friends of all ages in your everyday schedule, community provides great opportunities to acquire new skills, deep happiness, mystical wisdom, and creative optimism.

The Abode of the Message is an intentional community, born from a common commitment to broad spiritual values and the larger purpose of a common greater good for all humanity. Although the Abode hosts and manages multiple and diverse projects, the resident community is the core of all of the activities that have their leadership and staff, their meetings, headquarters, and offices in the historic Shaker buildings.

The Abode houses the headquarters and has become the "heart center" of the Sufi Order International. It is a place where friends "eat and pray" together. This could be considered "communion" but it is more than sharing  food. It is participating in producing the naturally grown crops on our farm, cooking, serving and maintaining the beautiful acreage. Everyone wants to believe that "Community" is still alive and thriving, somewhere. The Abode has evolved from the vision and effort of Pir Vilayat Inayat Khan and his 1960's "Flower Children," who sought a conscious way to lead a productive and meaningful life.

Communities keep making circles of Love and then enlarging them to include new friends, old friends and friends of friends, visitors, relatives, and even strangers who got lost. The community stretches, flows and re-defines itself with each new resident. Community is an ever-growing support system offering a variety of relationships to learn from and comrades to pal around with. Each new member is another team member to make the game more interesting, projects more successful, and life more fulfilling.
