The Anniversary of the Passing of Pir Vilayat Inayat Khan.

Pir Vilayat Inayat Khan was a senior statesman of the world spiritual community. He was the author of several well-known books, the most recent of which is In Search of The Hidden Treasure published Tarcher Putnam. He was the head of the Sufi Order International, a learning community that offers a universal approach to spiritual development. During his lectures, seminars and retreats, Pir Vilayat introduced an ancient stream of wisdom - present in all religions and humanistic philosophies - into the global awakening happening in our time.
Pir Vilayat was the son and designated successor of the Indian Sufi Mystic, Hazrat Inayat Khan. He was educated at the Sorbonne, Oxford, and L’Ecole Normal de Musique de Paris. During WWII he served in the British Royal Navy. After the war, Pir Vilayat pursued his spiritual training by studying with masters of many different religious traditions throughout India and the Middle East. He was an acknowledged Pir in the lineage of the Chishti Sufi Order of India. While honoring the initiatic tradition of his predecessors, Pir Vilayat continualy pioneered updated practices in keeping with the evolution of Western science.
